Women, Money & Freedom: Breaking Limiting Beliefs to Build a Business on Your Terms
What if the thing standing between you and the money and freedom you want isn’t another business strategy?
What if it’s a belief?
Because you can know exactly what you should be doing in your business and still find yourself procrastinating, undercharging, hiding, or wondering why you’ve hit the same income ceiling again and again.
And sometimes, what’s underneath all of that has very little to do with strategy.
It’s your relationship with money.
Money Is About So Much More Than Money
I originally recorded this conversation with Hannele for her podcast, The Freedom Pivot, and we went WAY beyond the usual conversation about how to make more money in your business.
We talked about what happens underneath the strategy.
Because when women start making their own money, something powerful happens.
We have choices.
We can leave jobs that no longer fit.
We can support our families.
We can invest.
We can say no.
We can take the vacation.
We can build our lives around what actually matters to us.
Money creates options.
And options create freedom.
That’s one of the reasons I’m so passionate about helping women build businesses that actually make money. Not because I think money is the answer to everything, but because having your own money can fundamentally change what’s possible.
The Money Beliefs We Inherit
The complicated part?
We don’t develop our relationship with money in a vacuum.
We’re shaped by our families, cultures, experiences, workplaces, and the expectations placed on us from a very young age.
Be good.
Be helpful.
Be humble.
Don’t be too loud.
Don’t make other people uncomfortable.
Don’t ask for too much.
And certainly don’t act like you think you’re better than anyone else.
Then we become entrepreneurs and wonder why selling ourselves feels uncomfortable.
Why raising our prices feels terrifying.
Why being visible can feel like exposing a nerve.
Why receiving money can feel strangely difficult.
We were conditioned for some of this.
That doesn’t mean we’re powerless.
It means we get to notice the patternโand decide whether we’re keeping it.
What Happens When You Actually Make More Money?
Here’s something I’ve learned firsthand:
Sometimes it’s easier to want more money than it is to actually receive it.
At one point, I made $90K from a single promotion.
And instead of simply thinking, โAmazing! Let’s do that again,โ I found myself confronting a whole new set of questions.
Did I deserve this?
Could I deliver?
Could I sustain it?
Could I actually handle receiving this much money?
That’s the part of business growth we don’t talk about enough.
You can spend years figuring out how to make more moneyโฆ
โฆand then discover that your next level requires you to become comfortable having more money.
Your nervous system may prefer what feels familiar.
Your brain may come up with reasons why you’re not ready.
You may suddenly question your pricing, your offer, your audience, or your ability to deliver.
And that’s why money mindset isn’t some fluffy side topic.
It can show up in your pricing.
Your visibility.
Your sales.
Your investments.
Your ability to receive.
And your willingness to let yourself succeed.
The Fear of Being Seen
There’s another piece of this that we talk about in the episode: visibility.
Because making more money usually requires some level of being seen.
And being seen means risking judgment.
It means someone might say no.
Someone might not like your offer.
Someone might think you’re charging too much.
Someone might think you’re โtoo much.โ
And when your business is connected to your identity and the work you deeply care about, rejection can feel personal.
That’s why sometimes you don’t need another strategy.
You need to be willing to send the email.
Make the offer.
Raise the price.
Ask for the sale.
And let someone have the opportunity to say yesโor no.
What Would More Freedom Make Possible for You?
This is ultimately where the conversation comes back around for me.
Women, money, and freedom are deeply connected.
Not because money guarantees happiness.
But because financial freedom can give you choices.
And choices give you agency.
So I want you to think about this:
What would change if you weren’t making business decisions based on what you were afraid of?
What if you weren’t constantly asking whether you’re allowed to want more?
What if you could receive more money without immediately looking for a reason why you shouldn’t?
What if making more money wasn’t about proving your worthโbut about creating more freedom?
That’s the conversation I wanted to have.
